The Cloth That Remembers
Art by Khushi Kharote | Words by Oindrila Gupta

The Heron circled above Kutch,
watching where earth and tribe once struck a pact:
“If you feed my rivers with your colours,
I will feed your children with my harvest.”
So the Chhipas began stamping cloth,
a covenant pressed into fabric, into time.
The Heron saw Ajrakh stars that mirrored cosmic cycles,
Saw circles that held the sun and the moon in their rhythm,
Patterns that carried the breath of wind and wave.
The tiger, striped guardian of forests,
its strength pressed into pattern,
a reminder of power held quietly in the land.
The fish swimming in circles,
their bodies moving like flowing rivers,
lives nourished by water.
A bird in flight,
The messenger between sky and earth.
The Heron watched waters curved into waves,
swelling beneath planets,
rising, receding, eternal.
The deer, gentle, watchful,
its antlers branching like trees,
A prayer of renewal.
It witnessed a girl hold a spiral shell and declare:
In my hands I hold the print of time.
Eight prayers pressed eternal in indigo.

Every set funds meals — because stories pressed into cloth should also nourish lives.

Handcrafted traditions carry centuries of history, passed from parent to child. Yet, when hunger enters the home, survival takes precedence over preservation, and these crafts face the risk of fading away.

With this set, you sponsor 10 meals, providing immediate nourishment while also giving generational artists the stability to continue their practice, protect their heritage, and pass on their craft to the future.
